I have no idea why I like these so much more than anything else since without the amps I don't think you get any extra features in the cabs you wouldn't get elsewhere. I like the RIR2 IRs so much I'm thinking about making some music with just my DI going into Revalver cabs no amps or pedals. To make sure I wasn't imagining things I inserted some of my other cab sims to demo them side by side and sure enough none of them gave me back an improvement on my DI. Several of the cab IRs I can stick directly on my DI, just that IR and nothing else, and there is an improvement in tone and dynamics. To start on a positive note I really really like the RIR2. For what you get for $99 I'm very impressed though. Revalver 3.5 was just as good as anything out there if you spent some time dialing it in (the defaults in the tweak section were horrible), Rv4 is easier out of the box to dial in but yeah, it's just another (very) (good) amp sim. The engine and the modeling has been upped (models also remade from schematics I believe, or only some) but things like that will be subtle. Loading your own RedWirez's kit into Revalver makes use of the old RIR, plain old standard impulse loader. RIR2 is like a plain old IR cab-emu then, with 'low' and 'high' controls, and 'ambience' (subtle reverb like) controls. And it only works with Revalver amps! You can put another amp sim through Revalver's RIR2 and expect the same to happen. This interaction only works in RIR2 (and needs special data, the reason why you can't use RIR2 with any custom impulses). I think it's kinda like the z-curve impedance impulses in the RedWirez kit, but then dynamically modelled / captured between cab and amp. The normal one being the 'mathematically correct one', but others are said to fit better in a mix if you so desire. You can choose in the amp (right clicking, last option somewhere) between three different modes. RIR2 has new interaction between amp and speaker. You still need your own made dongle/USB though.

It's possible to register on an internet connected computer, and then transfer one file to an offline computer and use Revalver there. Kinda a pain for me with limited USB ports on my laptop (and using my desktop at home and my laptop on the road a lot). If you lose the USB device (or it breaks or something), Peavey support can make it happen quickly that you use another device. Yes, you need that device connected when launching the plugin or standalone app.

Nothing will get written to it, but the stuff you buy (or the free stuff) gets authorized to the unique serial number of the USB device. To get 'the free stuff', create a Peavey Revalver account, log into it from within Revalver, lock it to an USB device and then you get the free stuff. Per default everything is in 'demo' mode ('whoop' sine wave sound playing every now and then). You can create an account and buy stuff from the webpage fine without having Revalver installed, you need to log into your account from within Revalver 4 later to get access to it.

To answer somethings (no I'm not Peavey / Revalver related):
